San Antonio communications veteran John Worthington has been promoted to executive vice president/chief communications officer for Security Service Federal Credit Union (SSFCU), responsible for leading the credit union’s programs for legislative affairs; community service; public relations; and industry, civic and trade association participation.
Prior to joining SSFCU in 1994 as vice president of marketing, Worthington served for 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, holding key public affairs positions including assignments in the Pentagon with the Air Force Office of Public Affairs and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He also served as Commander of the Air Force Broadcasting Service, directing Air Force broadcast activities around the world.
Worthington is active in the community and legislative affairs, serving as a board member of the Bexar County Arts and Cultural Fund and the North San Antonio Chamber’s 501c3 “Lead SA” charitable organization and as a member of the Texas Credit Union League Governmental Affairs Committee. He holds a masters in public relations from American University, is a life member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and sings with the award-winning barbershop harmony Heart of Texas Chorus.

Charles Goss has been named senior vice president/chief lending officer, responsible for indirect lending, direct lending, mortgage and asset recovery.
Malagamba brings about 30 years of financial experience to his position, serving in a variety of international assignments with multinational companies including PepsiCo and Proctor and Gamble. He most recently served as National Accounts Emerging and Convenience Finance Director for Frito-Lay North America, a division of PepsiCo, located in Plano, Texas.
Security Service Federal Credit Union (SSFCU) announced today that Donna McKernan, Gina Drake and Walter MaCal have all been promoted to assistant vice presidents within the credit union’s award-winning Member Call Center (MCC).
McKernan, who has been with the credit union since 1992, started her career as a member information specialist. In her new position, she will be responsible for electronic banking, training, workforce management and remote deposit account openings. She attended the University of Incarnate Word and has served as a mentor for students at Business Careers High School. She is active in the SSFCU Volunteer Corps team.
Drake joined SSFCU in 2005 as a manager. She holds a bachelor of business administration with an emphasis in management from Texas State University and is a member of the Professional Teleservice Management Association (PTMA). She will be responsible for managing daily operations, analyzing call center performance and managing call center support for credit union members across multiple locations.
MaCal worked at SSFCU for seven years before rejoining the team in 2003. A member of the PTMA, he will be responsible for managing daily operations and overseeing the consistent support of credit union members, acting on behalf of multiple regional call centers and remote agents. He is currently pursuing a bachelor of arts at the University of Incarnate Word.
Martin has led a wide range of credit union operations, serving as president and chief executive officer of two federal credit unions in Arizona. He holds a bachelor of science in computer science from the University of Idaho and a master’s degree in finance from Western International University. He is a retired lieutenant commander for the U.S. Navy and served as a surface warfare officer.
Harrelson currently serves as business development manager for the credit union. She has led countless efforts to expand financial literacy and education throughout the credit union’s markets in three states. Her efforts helped the credit union receive the Dora Maxwell Award for Outstanding Social Responsibility and Honorable Mention for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, awarded by the Credit Union National Association.
Filsinger is a senior member service representative at the credit union’s Highway 90 branch. He was part of the branch’s Military Saves team that signed up nearly 500 military members in one month, helping them learn how to avoid debt and save for the future.
Allen joined the team at SSFCU in 1988 as a teller and worked his way through the Member Service ranks for the next 25 years, progressing to vice president in 2009. With extensive knowledge of branch operations and overseeing a 24/7/365 Call Center, Allen is tasked with ensuring “best in class” service to SSFCU members. Allen has held leadership roles on the board of directors for the Palmer Drug Abuse Program and acted as a mentor at Business Careers High School.
A graduate of Texas A&M University and St. Mary’s University Law School, Cody has more than 14 years experience in the credit union industry. He was named a San Antonio Business Journal “40 under 40” Rising Star, is a graduate of Leadership San Antonio Class XXVII, has served as the chairman of the board of directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation South Texas Chapter and serves on the board of directors of Lexi’s Place, a non-profit organization designed to help youth aging out of foster care with housing and education.
Baker has more than 24 years experience in the credit union industry and has previously served as a principal examiner for the National Credit Union Association. He is a graduate of Texas State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance. He served as chairman for the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, president of the New Braunfels Christian Academy, and is a member of the McCoy School of Business Advisory Board at Texas State University in San Marcos.
