Broadway Bank achieved gold-level recognition through the City of San Antonio Healthy Workplace Recognition Program 2014 awarded by the San Antonio Business Group on Health and the Mayor’s Fitness Council. The Broadway Bank Wellness Advisory Council members will be among other representatives in the city recognized on May 19. Wellness@Broadway, the bank’s signature program aimed at engaging employees and challenging them to eat right and stay fit has gleaned results. In 2013, participants collectively lost 407 pounds and walked more than 277,090,361 steps in monthly challenges to average of 6,000 to 10,000 steps a day.
The Wellness Advisory Council at Broadway Bank is planning to implement more initiatives directly targeted at creating a healthier workplace and workforce. Carlos Torres, executive vice president and human resources director, is excited about the recognition.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the Mayor’s Fitness Council for our wellness program, especially since employee wellness is a top priority at Broadway Bank,” said Torres.
“With this recognition, we are reenergized to continue making improvements and offering new initiatives which keep our employees engaged and enthusiastic about pursuing a healthy lifestyle,” added Torres.
The walking and weight loss challenges are among several initiatives that have become popular ways of promoting fitness at Broadway Bank. Some of the other successful programs include a financial wellness program, a yearly bank 5K walk for employees and their families, Diabetes@Work Program, a healthy rodeo breakfast, a wellness room and healthy cooking demonstrations.
The Wellness@Broadway Bank initiative also gained the bank recognition as a local Fit-Friendly Company from the American Heart Association in 2013 and accolades from several other organizations. Along with the goal of a healthier Broadway Bank, employees also branch out in the community supporting causes that inspire exercise, fitness and good health like Siclovia, the city-wide bike event, San Antonio Sports Foundation Corporate Cup, the Tour de Cure for the American Diabetes Association and Walk MS to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis research. Broadway Bank also routinely hosts health screenings at the Cheever Administration Building conference center.
