Jefferson Bank offers Visa Check Card alerts

JB_photoWhen customers use a Jefferson Bank Visa® Check Card to make a purchase, they receive instant confirmation of the purchase, through text messages and/or email, allowing cardholders to monitor their spending and check legitimate activity, reducing fraud.  Jefferson Bank is the first community bank in San Antonio to partner with Visa to provide these instant card alerts to its customers.

“With so many transactions occurring, and with card fraud on the rise,we wanted to offer our customers peace of mind while they are shopping,” said Sarah Booker, Vice President and Card Services Officer, Jefferson Bank. “Other financial institutions have bank account alerts, or e-banking alerts, but none solely for the use of the debit check card, and Jefferson Bank is committed to providing its customers’ with this added safety and security measure.”

Cardholders receive alerts through text messages on their mobile phone or via e-mail on their tablet, computer or mobile phone. For added security, cardholders can choose to receive both text and e-mail. Information received includes purchase amount, merchant name and location (if available) and the last four digits of the Visa card used (see image).

Customers using the Jefferson Bank Visa Check Card also receive customized transaction alerts for purchases made online, over the phone or through the mail. Alerts will also be provided for cash withdrawals at an ATM (only for international ATM/PIN transactions) and if purchases are made outside the United States.

“We have received so many positive reactions and complimentary feedback from our customers who have taken advantage of this free service. We have had several cases of attempted fraud that have been blocked due to the Card Alerts service instantly notifying our customers,” Booker said.  “Overall, Jefferson Bank Card Alerts has been a valuable service for both our customers and us. It’s another way that we maintain the responsiveness and commitment of customer service because, after all, This is personal to us!”

He has more than 25 years of investment management and teaching experience. He has held investment-related positions and has taught economics, investments, corporate finance, and personal financial planning as a full-time professor at West Point, Trinity Western University (British Columbia) and Texas Tech University. At Broadway Bank, Korb manages funds for foundations, endowments, retirement funds, trusts and high net worth individuals. He has a Bachelor of Science in management from the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Master of Business Administration with distinction in finance from the University of Michigan, and a Doctor of Philosophy in family and consumer sciences education from Iowa State University. He was awarded the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) designation in 1992 and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2000.

Bonilla provides legal and practical guidance to Broadway Bank clients regarding the settlement of estates. Prior to joining Broadway Bank, she served as the deputy director and staff attorney for Catholic Charities Legal Guardianship and Money Management. She is a summa cum laude graduate of St. Mary’s University, with a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a secondary level permanent teaching certificate. She earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio. She was licensed to practice law in the state of Texas in 1996. She volunteers for Catholic Charities and the Community Justice Program of the San Antonio Bar Association.

J_Hardaway_2014Julie Hardaway has been promoted to senior vice president, wealth advisor team manager in the wealth management division of Broadway Bank. Hardaway provides guidance to Broadway Bank clients regarding estate planning and trust and estate administration. Prior to joining Broadway Bank in 2005, she served as the Staff Attorney for Bexar County Probate Court No. 1. She has a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Southwestern University in Georgetown. She earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock and was licensed to practice law in Texas in 1996. Hardaway is president of the board of directors of the ARC of San Antonio.

Broadway Bank opens second new Austin banking center

Five Highland High School students awarded Broadway Bank scholarships

BroadwayBank_Logo_tagHighlands High School Students with Jeanette Flores Westbrook Cheever BuildingHighlands High School Class of 2014 graduating seniors, Christian Garcia-Hernandez, Anthony Lopez, Jason Lopez, Artemio Ortiz and Eduardo Velazquez, took center stage as Broadway Bank awarded them each $2,000 scholarships in support of their next step in education. San Antonio Independent School District superintendent Sylvester Perez, Ed.D., and the executive director of the San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP), Eyra Perez, joined with Jim Goudge, Broadway Bank, chief executive officer, and a large group of Broadway Bankers to recognize the students.

“It’s an honor to celebrate the success of these Broadway Bank scholarship recipients and to learn about their plans for the future,” said Sylvester Perez, Ed.D. “They have great aspirations, and this generous contribution toward their college education will bring them a step closer to achieving their goals.”

All five students are first generation college-goers and three of them boast a100 percent attendance rate. Broadway Bank awards these scholarships to students representing a different high school in Bexar County every year in collaboration with the SAEP.

Anthony Lopez plans to study electrical engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He said, “I want to create a company that brings jobs here to San Antonio, Texas, my hometown.”

Christian Garcia-Hernandez with Jeannette Westbrook FloresGarcia-Hernandez plans to attend Northeast Lakeview College then transfer to UTSA. He is both a first generation high school graduate and college student. He said, “I’m very determined to graduate from college.”

Jason Lopez was thrilled to receive the scholarship. He never missed a day of school and will study technology engineering at UTSA. He said, “The reason I want to study engineering is because I want to be able to make a big change in the world. I even want to make history.”

Ortiz said, “I want to become a cyber-security computer programmer. I know it will not be easy but I will strive to succeed and reach my future goals.” He has 100 percent attendance and also plans to study at UTSA.

Eduardo Velazquez has a 98 average and has 100 percent attendance. He will study music performance at UTSA. He said, “For my career, I wish to be a music educator or instructor able to make a positive difference in children’s lives through music.”

Generations Federal Credit Union launches deposit by mobile app service

“Technology such as Smart Deposit allows Generations to provide the personal service that we are known for and at the same time be competitive with even the largest national banks,” said Steve Schipull, president and CEO of Generations FCU. “Consumers need convenience and ease of service in their banking products and financial institutions must be able to meet those needs if they are to remain competitive and relevant.”

Smart-Deposit_ATMGenerations members can access Smart Deposit through the credit union’s mobile application which is available for Apple and Android-supported devices.  To make a deposit, members simply select the Smart Deposit feature in the main menu, take a picture of the front and back of the check, select the account where the funds will be deposited and click submit.

For the financial safety and security of members, check images are not stored on the mobile device.  Additionally, Generations utilizes some of the most advanced and stringent encryption technology currently available.

Broadway Bank Promotes Carlos Torres to Human Resources Director

Broadway Bank logoCarlos Torres was named executive vice president and human resources director at Broadway Bank where he has served as senior vice president and human resources manager since 2008. Torres has worked in the human resources arena for 23 years in various capacities, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits design, strategic management, and employee and leadership development.

“I am excited that Carlos has taken on this new leadership role with Broadway Bank. It is a great opportunity for him to lead us in the various strategic initiatives that strengthen our culture, recruit the best bankers and retain a workforce that is dedicated to the Broadway experience,” said Jim Goudge, Broadway Bank chairman and chief executive officer.

While at Broadway Bank, Torres has developed leadership competencies and programs to educate and develop leaders. He also has managed the bank’s recruitment program, creating a comprehensive compensation and job description review for the organization. He revised and implemented new human resources policies to support organizational strategies including the nicotine-free hiring policy. In addition, Torres spearheaded the development of the “Managing Employee Performance within the Broadway Culture” leadership class. His Wellness@Broadway Bank initiative gained the bank recognition as a local Fit-Friendly Company from the American Heart Association and from the Mayor’s Fitness Council as a healthy workplace, along with accolades from several other organizations.

“I am honored to assume the role of human resources director for Broadway Bank,” said Torres. “Our philosophy of employee first defines our commitment to a great place to work. I am humbled to be a part of such a great company which is committed to its employees, customers and the community,” he added.

A San Antonio native, Torres graduated from Central Catholic High School. He has a bachelor’s degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin. He is the 2014-2015 chairman of the American Diabetes Association Leadership Board, co-chairman for the 2014 KLRN Wine Festival and the 2013-2014 chairman of the “My Heart. My Life” committee for the American Heart Association, among others.
