North San Antonio Chamber Releases City Council Scorecard

The Scorecard covers the Council term from June 2017 through March 2019 and is described by the NSAC President and the Board Chair as "a standing record of how each Councilmember and the Mayor voted on pro-business issues."

Paid Sick Leave (PSL) Update from the North SA Chamber

During an appearance with the NSAC Board of Directors on February 15, Chamber President/CEO, Cristina Aldrete, asked Governor Greg Abbott for help opposing attempts to mandate PSL at the local level. Since then, we have been tracking the progress of PSL in the 86th Legislative Session and provide this update.

  • The Mexican government is "moving on [USMCA] legislation"
  • Business groups consider USMCA "crucial to their ability to do business in Texas"
  • Differences in the Senate, unhappy with new tariffs, and House, wanting more "enforcement mechanisms," need to be resolved

U.S. Trade Policy: Rising Risks, Delayed Timetables

In our 2019 economic forecast, we made the case that trade policy was the greatest risk to the global and domestic economic outlook. At the time, we expected passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement modernization pact by Congress early in the year and a possible rollback of the trade spat with China. That optimistic forecast has been diminished by a lack of action on the ground and a rapid deceleration of both the U.S. and global growth prospects.
