Rio Cibolo Ranch offers Western-Style entertainment and hospitality for groups

RioCiboloRanch_logoThe “Rio Cibolo Ranch” is a working Longhorn cattle Ranch and Pecan Orchard located a short 25 minutes northeast of downtown San Antonio. The Ranch specializes in providing turnkey catering and entertainment services to private groups for any special event. Family owned and operated, Rio Cibolo Ranch provides unparalleled Texas Hospitality loaded with a Southwestern flair.

The Ranch has set aside and area along the Cibolo for Western-style entertainment for groups wishing to celebrate an event in the surroundings of horses, cattle, wild game, wide open pastures interrupted only by three miles of winding river and century old pecan trees – not to mention a host of fun-loving people! A 20,000 square foot, all weather pavilion called the “R.C.R. Corral” can accommodate from 100 to 2,000 guests with plenty of room to dance and a Texas –size stage for a band or a show. The Ranch’s newest facility and entertainment area, Zuehl’s Hall accommodates groups up to 350 guests. The Lazy Lily River House accommodates smaller groups from 50-200 guests. There are numerous outdoor activities such as a hay wagon ride, a barge ride on the river where you will surely see Longhorn cattle and possibly wild deer, turkey and our resident blue heron. Two huge fire pits where a hindquarter might be cooking on an open spigot or marshmallows roasting or enjoy some of our famous trail driver chili served from the Dutch kettle. Fun games might include our Cowboy Olympics, a pig scramble, armadillo races, a cow-chip toss or any number of pre-planned activities. Barbeque is the Ranch’s specialty with plates piled with mesquite smoked beef, pork ribs, chicken, beans, salad, or all sorts, homemade breads and condiments galore. For the sweet tooth how about some fresh baked pies, cakes, and cobblers?

In 1864, Carl Christian Zuehl, an immigrant from Prussia (Germany) settled near the Ranch and established a community that bears his name. Before the turn of the century, Zuehl was a thriving cotton town with two cotton gins. The Main Street was called Gin Road with a gin at each end. This is the road to the Ranch and runs by the original plantation house which was built in the German (gingerbread) style. The house is still standing in good condition and can be seen on the south side of Gin Road as you approach the Ranch.

Just across the road from the plantation house is a private airfield known to the locals as Zuehl International Airport and is actually the home of some well-known stunt flyers. Some years ago a movie, “The Great Waldo Pepper” starring Robert Redford, was filmed on this site. The community of Zuehl is still alive and supports one tavern, two ninepin-bowling societies, and is home to a renowned potter that sells his pottery all over the world.

Baby, its’ “chili” outside – at least for the participants of the North Chamber 2012 Leadership Lab “best class, ever.” It was a slightly chili day, Wednesday, October 10, when Lab participants gathered at Rio Cibolo Ranch for team building, entertainment and a good old fashioned chili cook off. The event soon concludes a nine-month award winning leadership series focusing on self-discovery, inspiration and success.

Criteria for the Chili Challenge involved the teams’ ability to study the elements of the product’s marketing mix, strategy, pricing, advertising and promotion using case studies. The end resulting in discovering personal branding and capitalizing on using the brand created to increase the circle of influence.

Judges for the competition included Leadership Lab alumni and supporters Maria Barrett of Padgett, Stratemann & Company; Marty Williams, Westin La Cantera; and Darryl Cook, Preferred Landscape and Design.

With over 52 companies represented, the North Chamber’s 2012 Leadership Lab will graduate 78 professionals. San Antonio’s up-and-coming business leaders from the corporate, non-profit and small business environments will graduate on Friday, November 30, 2012 at Oak Hills Country Club.
