FOCUS: The Leadership & Professional Development Council offers specialized and advanced leadership and professional development to encourage and support our community’s leaders. This Council promotes leadership cultivation designed to assist business people in building professional connections and acquiring cutting-edge thinking and best practices.
Melodye Tomsu is the Business Development Manager for SpawGlass, a contractor for one-of-a-kind projects demanding attending to detail. For over 20 years, Melodye has developed strategic relationships with professionals in the A/E/C community in and around Texas. She understands how to build trust and collaboration with her clients and peers which makes her a valuable team member to the SpawGlass team.
In addition to developing and maintaining client relationships for SpawGlass, Melodye has led efforts for the organization of SpawGlass San Antonio Division’s Charity Golf Tournament raising over $90,000.00 for local non-profit organizations such as Respite Care of San Antonio, Clarity Child Guidance Center and Sunshine Cottage. She also spearheaded SpawGlass’ 2015 and 2016 toy drives benefitting the children at University Health System and citizens in Commissioner Chico Rodriguez district for the holidays.
Melodye chaired the 2015 North Chamber Leadership Lab Class which graduated 86 students. A graduate of the 2008 Lab Class, Melodye served on the 2009-2010 Leadership Alumni Board as a Director and Sponsorship Chair and served as President in 2014. Melodye also participated in the steering committee for the class of 2014.
In addition of North Chamber, she is Past President of SMPS where she was named “Board Member of the Year” in 2010 and “Marketer of the Year” in 2012. The San Antonio Business Journal recognized Melodye in 2012 as one of their “40 Under 40 Rising Stars”. She has chaired and volunteered on numerous committees and boards for TSPE, AIA, AGC, AWWA, RESCA, CEFPI, COAA, ULI and RESCA.
Melodye is married Tommy Tomsu and is the proud mother Emily (age 4) and Megan (age 3). In November of 2015, Melodye and her family relocated to the outskirts of New Braunfels where they are enjoying the smaller community. She enjoys reading, exercising, being with friends and family and traveling.

Wood, Broadway Bank Senior Vice President, has served as Continual Process Improvement Officer since 2007 and has taken the bank’s continual improvement efforts from basic LEAN concepts to the first stages of formal Business Process Management/Excellence. His program includes Six Sigma process capability monitoring, internal service level agreements (SLAs), project management methodologies, and core process Key Performance Indicator (KPI) development. John has written continual improvement articles for the Broadway Bank Family Business Resource Center and the Bank’s Moneywise customer newsletter.
About the Program: Leadership Lab is an award-winning, nine-month leadership development program designed to bring the most current leadership development principles, research and best-practices to its participants. It focuses on 5 core elements of professional performance, leadership, management, community service and self-awareness. Participants are immersed in the program which includes self-assessments for understanding their leadership style and skills, developing a Career Strategy Plan aligned with developmental goals and receive one-on-one career coaching. This transformational leadership program is specifically designed to provide North SA Chamber members a learning environment outside of their organization to develop their future leaders and connect them with the community to develop beneficial business relationships.
Personally Speaker: After attending the North SA Chamber Leadership Lab in 2012, John was drawn to the camaraderie, professional development, and networking opportunities made possible by continued involvement with the alumni. Being nominated and elected to serve on the alumni board for 2013 and 2014 was a great privilege and offered him the opportunity to further contribute to one of San Antonio’s finest business leadership organizations as a member of the board’s leadership development-education, and social networking committees. “I am grateful to have served as the alumni board’s vice-president in 2015, and will be taking the reigns as board president in 2016 where I hope to further support education and collaboration among the members and elevate the awareness and visibility of the North SA Chamber,” says John.

About the Program: The Leadership Lab Alumni Association is an unincorporated affiliate of the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and serves the alumni of the North SA Chamber Leadership Lab program by supporting and fostering the relationships developed by participation in Lab; providing alumni ongoing opportunities for leadership development and the establishment of new business and personal relationships; providing support and resources to Lab participants and to Association members; enhancing the image and visibility of Lab and alumni in the community; and marketing association members to other business members of the Chamber.
