November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month

Epilepsy_Foundation_logoIn the few moments that it will take you to read this message 5 people will have been diagnosed with epilepsy and 1 person will have died from an epilepsy related death. “Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy” (SUDEP) is responsible for 34% of the deaths in children who die of epilepsy related causes. For two-thirds of the people diagnosed with epilepsy and seizures – the cause of their epilepsy seizure disorder is unknown.

The Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas is asking you to help us STOP epilepsy! STOP Seizures! End the senseless deaths, and help us bring awareness and support to the more than 130,000 people in Central & South Texas affected by epilepsy and seizures.

How? Join us at the Fifth Annual Seize the Moment 5K Fun Run/Walk! Help the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas seize hope and join us as we come together in a unified message of support on behalf of those with epilepsy and seizures. We invite you to run, walk or stroll with us on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Eisenhower Park (19399 NW Military Hwy, 78257). Bring your friends, family, and dogs for a great morning of fun, music and most importantly epilepsy awareness.

Epilepsy_pic2More people will die from epilepsy related causes than breast cancer! One in 10 people will experience a seizure in their lifetime and one in 26 people will be diagnosed with Epilepsy. There are over 467,000 children with epilepsy in the United States. There are more people with epilepsy than those with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease COMBINED; yet epilepsy receives significantly lower awareness and funds for research.
